3 Tips For Protecting Your Elbows While Exercising

Whether you’ve been dealing with elbow pain for years due to tendonitis or other injuries or if you just feel a bit of stiffness and pain in your elbows occasionally, it’s good to know how you can best protect this part of your body when you’re being active. Especially when you’re exercising, it can be easy to overuse or tweak your elbow. But if you know how to best protect yourself, you should be able to avoid some of the major issues that can happen.

To help you learn how this can be done, here are three tips for protecting your elbows while exercising.

Keep Yourself Properly Hydrated

While it’s always a good idea to make sure that you’re properly hydrated when you work out, suffering from dehydration can be particularly hard on your elbow and other joints when you’re trying to workout. As you attempt to use your joints during exercise, being dehydrated can result in a lack of lubrication and make your elbows more prone to inflammation and injury.

Knowing this, you’re going to want to do whatever it takes for you to always stay properly hydrated leading up to a workout. This way, your body will have the strength and lubrication it needs to help you push through those harder exercises without putting too much stress on your joints.

Reduce Repetitive Movements In Daily Life

When you’re exercising, you’re intentionally putting stress on your body so that you can strengthen your muscles. In these controlled movements, as long as you’re not pushing yourself too hard, the chance for major injury to your elbows is relatively low. But if you have things in your daily life that put a lot of stress on your elbows, like repetitive movements that you do at work, you may want to rethink how you use your elbows to do these things so that you can put less stress on them.

While you might not always be able to find a perfect solution, even just being more cognizant of how you’re using your elbows and what causes pain there can help you get creative with avoiding these repetitive movements until you’ve been able to strengthen the muscles in your elbows.

Do Exercises That Focus On The Muscles Of The Elbow

There are all kinds of exercises that you can try that will help to strengthen the muscles of your elbow and further protect them while you’re exercising and doing other daily tasks. Part of this includes strengthening your triceps and biceps.

Some of the best exercises to do this include isometric elbow flexion, elbow bends, elbow extensions, wrist turns, and wrist lifts.

If you’re worried about your elbows and want to make sure that you can protect them while you’re exercising, use the tips mentioned above to help you learn some of the best ways of doing this.
